| | | | Things to do and see in the Wollombi Valley | Whether you're staying a day or a week, there's no shortage of things to do in and around the Wollombi Valley. Don't forget to check the Events Calendar for current exhibitions, events and activities. If you're after something different, catch a Cattle Auction on the second Saturday of each month, or stroll through the annual Sculpture in the Vineyards, which takes place from October to January each year. A visit to the Koolang Astronomical Observatory at Bucketty is also a memorable experience. | You can easily spend days exploring the history of Wollombi, gateway to Hunter Valley Wine Country. Well preserved Aboriginal engravings can be seen in a few locations. Many sections of the Convict Trail can be walked or accessed by car, and the Wollombi Village Historical Walk takes in the many pre-1860s buildings in the village, including the Endeavour Museum. For those into creative arts, you've come to the right place. Performances are held throughout the year by Wollombi Valley Artists, which are all highly regarded. Regular art exhibitions are displayed at the Cultural Centre in the village, and the Laguna School Art Show in September is a major annual event. | | | Nature-lovers are also well catered for. Explore the Yengo National Park and Watagans, which offer bushwalks of all lengths and difficulty, as well as the spectacular view from Finchley Trig. Or take the time to observe the many species of birds, grazing wallaroos and wallabies at dusk or wombats to night, to mention a few of the native locals… If you're exhausted already from what's on offer, you can always relax in front of a log fire in winter or enjoy a glass of local wine on a cool summer evening! | |
